chicken sitting on nest all day, comb kinda dry on tips, when I got her out of the nest she just lay

This describes the way one of my hens is acting lately but I do not have a rooster. Can a hen go broody without a rooster?

Hi! I'm new in this forum. I was trying to get info on why my one yr old australorp remained sitting in the nest yesterday and today. I noticed the behavior yesterday. Last night, she stayed in there all night by herself and not perched with her 2 friends. I opened the coop for them to forage, but in the afternoon, she was back in there. After reading everybody's stories, I decided to pick up the nesting box, took it outside the coop and tipped it to motivate her to up and about. So she did! There were 3 eggs in the box she was sitting on. Now, I just need to make sure I take the eggs on time. I think she will be fine now!

She may persist, now that she is broody. I have had some try to hatch pine shavings. Keep after her and make sure she can't return to the nest box. It's early enough that hopefully you can break her.

So, my brooding australorp is done after my persistence of kicking her out of the nesting box and out of the coop. She finally got it. Because she really was not eating properly, her egg came out gell- like. She is not back to laying yet, but she is back to her normal routine. By other two are doing just great, laying once a day. I still have yet to wait for Blackie to get back to laying eggs. I let the three ran around the outside the coop in my backyard. Hopefully, she gets back to her egg laying routine, My chicas are a year old.

Yeah! you have a broody chica. One of mine, an australorp was brooding for a week, but I was persistent on keeping her out of the coop and get her up and about despite her sassiness. She is back to normal, but not laying yet This is the first week after broken her off the broodiness.
