Chicken Squawking from Roost.

While out taking care of my chickens yesterday evening, one of the hens was sitting on the roost just squawking away. She would stop and then start again. Is she telling the others it is now time to get on the roost?

I do not have a rooster and do not want one.

When hens vocalize for no good reason like that, they are usually working up to laying an egg. Is she actively laying at present?

This was at 1730 (5:30 P.M.) yesterday and she was already on the roost. It was almost dark.

She would squawk for a little bit and then she was quiet . Then she would start over.

It wasn't long after that they all started to roost.

Mine have only become vocal either before or after (and at times both) laying their eggs. It’s quite comical to me when they do this.

Once the rest of them started to roost she quit.

I don't know if she is a two year old or nine month old. I couldn't see her leg band.
