Hello all,
My Americana white hen has been a consistent layer of blue eggs for quite a while, however, she has stopped laying eggs within two or three days now and sits and tries to poop. I used a gloved finger and checked to see if there was anything stuck, and found nothing. Her poop has been clear with white streaks and very little bits of greenish contents. She has not eaten for two days, but i have given her olive oil and water manually due to there being food left in her crop over night. But this is where it gets interesting... today, 10-15-17, I heard her making sounds that made me think she was in pain and working hard to do something.. so having her already separated and in a dog cage in my garage, I looked at her and just then she pooped this weird thing out... it has a very thin blueish shell (the color of shell for Americana hens) and looks like a fatty substance. I hope this is what was blocking her up, so that she can recover. Has anyone seen or heard of something like this??
Thank you for reading and any feedback!

Do an on site search on 'lash egg'. This is what has been bothering her. Hopefully it is only a minor glitch in her reproductive tract.

I’m no expert, but this looks like partially developed egg. Possibly a reproductive problem. Yes, maybe lash egg. I think she’ll feel better with it out, but could be indicative of a bigger issue. I forget what causes lash egg. I do know hens with laying issues can be puton hormones to prevent laying, if she is a beloved pet whose health is more important than egg production.

That is a lash egg with some eggshell and membrane attached. It is a symptom of salpingitis, inflammation of the oviduct. Early on, some think that antibiotics may help to prolong life and prevent egg yolk peritonitis. She could live for years with the problem. Giving her layer feed and free choice crushed oyster shell to help her shells be thick is about all you can do. Sometimes past viruses or injuries can cause egg shell development problems. Here is some info about salpingitis and egg shell problems:
