Last weekend we left for the weekend and came back on Sunday to find one of our chickens had died. One of the two remaining chickens has been having difficulty walking, but it’s on and off. I’ve treated the coop with diatomaceous earth for possible mites. Have been giving her calcium pills each day, and put Vaseline on her feet in case it’s scaly mites. Every other day she wakes up and is doing okay. Yesterday she was really struggling, but today woke up and has been able to jump up to sit on the stumps and move around better. She is still not completely well but nothing like yesterday. She’s also laying eggs daily. The other chicken seems completely fine. Our neighbor had a birdfeeder out that was drawing hoards of birds, so I haven’t ruled out avian flu. He has since put the birdfeeder away. Any ideas what could be going on?

Thank you!

Can you please post some photos of the birds, the legs and poop?

Is she laying eggs?
Walking/moving about get any better after an egg is laid?
What do you feed including treats?
How old?
Do you see lice/mites on the body?

Hi! Thank you for your reply. We gave her calcium pills daily for about a week and she is better! Have added oyster shells/ eggshells to their diet now too. Fingers crossed!
