So, I got a new chicken, she is a bantam english game hen. She took off yesterday and got up into the tallest tree in the yard. She spent the night up there but now it's three hours after sun up and she wont come down. I am depending on her survival instinct to eventually come down.

Does anyone have any ideas how to coax her down?

Set out a dish of water (Not food... food will attract other animals. If you stick close around it, I guess you could put a bowl of food out too.), shake a bag/can of meal worms or other treat they love, and hope she comes down. You may also be able to call a friend with a bucket truck, they might be able to at least coax her down or carefully grab her.

I've put the my other chicken in a portable pen with food near the tree so she'll see the other one eating and come down. I'll put some water out too.

Chickens have never died this way have they?

I've never heard of it, but it's possible because of hawks, etc. I'd stand out there as much as possible and keep an eye out for hawks.

not only do we have hawks but ravens and bald eagles all in the vicinity. She's broody, so I showed her a gold ball and put out her nesting box, she perked right up when she saw the "egg" but still nothing.

I thought english game hens were supposed to be friendly...

it's a very tall cedar, way out of reach of a ladder, when she was in one of the shorter trees last night we got a ladder but she just moved to the taller tree and got higher.
