Were expecting a freeze at about 28 or 25 degrees... will the chickens be ok outside in there little house...

There are several places in the barn and places for them to get out of the cold for the birds... but will they know to go there? they are all loose

The freeze should last 2 days...

25 degrees is like a day at the beach for chickens

If they have a place to get out of the wind, they are good!

That's warmer than our day time highs here in TN and my Southern chickens are out in it...single digits at night and we have a few with frostbite-one severe but the other 100 and something are all doing great. We have not got above freezing yet this year...it doesn't do this here

they will be perfectly fine just watch for frostbite on single comb breeds..... today our high was 27 and i was sooo excited our pipes worked again and the chicken water didnt freeze in like 5 minutes!!!! i was excited and so were the chickens they're used to like -10 to -5 degree temps so your southern chickens will be a little shocked but not hurt or in any danger

We had -32 a couple nights ago, and it's supposed to get to -30 again tomorrow night. Our birds are in an unheated building, and they are doing just fine. We give them food with extra fat added, and water them twice a day. No problems, except for one RIR bantam rooster that got caught under a bucket. He's frozen his comb and both of his feet. I will likely have to cull him if it appears that his feet can't be salvaged.

O.k.

I've been reading all your responses.

Do you lock them up if it's going to be raining too - in the cold temps? I worry about them getting chilled.

We usually get more rain than snow here in the winter. This year its almost equal. But to answer your question no at least for me no. I free range my girls and they are out in all weather thier choice. Coop is open should they want to go back in but most stay out in a light to med rain storm even in 30 degree temps. No on sick yet and no frostbite either.
