Would the infrared light disturb or scare the chooks. I mainly want to see who's bullying on the roosts. Does it only take single pics or is it an actual video. Does it record or do I have to monitor it. Sorry for all the ??

The infared light isn't visible by chickens. It's like one of those cameras that shows you heat, you don't see rays coming out of it! Most are video cameras, it will specify depending on the camera, and I'd imagine it's a mixed bag in terms of recording. Go have a look on amazon etc, it should specify all these things

My cameras can either record so that you can play back or watch them live and I'd expect 'most' of these cameras to do that to some extent. Mine record to a local memory card so you don't need an online subscription but it's worth checking.

One option if you don't have power / wifi nearby is a wildlife cam. They run on batteries and record to a local sd card so you have to retrieve the camera to view the video, but some have a SIM card slot to send photo's over mobile network.

We have a Little Acorn that we have had a few years that we just go strap on a tree in our woodland and go back and review occassionally, this is how we know we have foxes and badgers, etc. Batteries last months.

We bought ours because we had an interest in local wildlife rather than as a security system.

I don't know if they're all infrared or what (honestly don't know what mine is) but it doesn't scare them. They may wake up and eyeball it, but settle back down without issue.

You have to check each camera to see what the specifications are. I use mine as live feed as I don't have an account to save video. Others may save video to your computer, cloud storage, or to a flash drive. Other things to consider: power source (battery, wired in, solar?) and internet/WiFi connection, if you want to watch off a phone or computer.

I use a Ring camera. So I just log on to the app, select the camera I want and it sends a live feed over our WiFi to my phone or computer.

So my Christmas present this year was a coop cam, it arrived on Monday and I got it hooked up on Wednesday. Well yes, I’m obsessed lol
I disabled the alerts on it because that was getting ridiculous but I check it all the time. I just love watching them. Hoping to add another in the new year to the run. Who else has coop cams and are you obsessed with it?
I’m thinking of lowering my angle a bit so I can see into the nest boxes a bit better so I can figure out who’s laying the brown eggs.

My husband just hooked up our coop camera also and I love it!
No more wasted trips down to the coop. I can look on my iphone and can instantly see if they knocked over the water, or if they have all put themselves to bed at night.

Of course, predators were the reason we first bought it but I am finding that I save a lot of ”gee, I wonder if…?” Trips to the coop

Congratulations on your new chicken tv. just don’t get into the habit of binge watching, like I did lol!
