We have a hen that has suddenly started sitting down a lot, and when she has to move, she walks on her knees, or flaps if she has to go faster. I cannot find any injuries on her feet or legs. Although the flock was chased by a dog the other day. She is perky enough aside from the legs, she pecks and eats, and leaves the coop to hang out with her flock. She is from a group of Wellsummers that just started laying, the other girls seem fine, if a bit light.

Here's a video:

And ideas? I just saw some people recommend a B1 and calcium supplement. I don't think they've ever been wormed. They free-range around 2 arces.

I've had this happen in the long ago past with Welsummers. It may be a breed vulnerability to vitamin B-1 deficiency. You can try treating it with B-complex, but it would be best to get the B-1 so you can drench her system. Give one tablet a day for the next few weeks. It would help to include B-6 as it will work with the B-1 to target nerve connections. B-12 can help also. Do not worry about dosage or overdosing as B-vitamins are water soluble and excess is excreted in the urates.

Did your Welsummers ever recover? I also have a 4 month old Marin like this. I’ll build her a space in the coop but wish she could be with the flock. They are not nice to her.
