Chicken went broody

2x Broody Jail, works for me all the time. You mentioned "crate", if it's the plastic carrier type, it won't work. The wire cage does, remove the tray put 1 x 2 welded wire at the bottom. Keep the cage in the coop so no reintroduction issues. The higher off the ground you have it the better, air has to flow to keep "cool" them, food & water, keep her in it for at least 3 days. Then let her out with the rest in the evening. I don't do the "cold" water treatment but have heard of some putting ice in the nest box.

I don't have a cage so I just block off the nests at night and make sure they're on the roost when it starts to get dark. Takes about a week or less. Has worked every time so far.

That's what I've been doing, blocking the nest at night, but shes right in there first thing in the morning, I'm going to try the crate , it will fit in the enclosed run, but I dont think it will fit in the coop.

Mine do the same. I let them sit during the day, but not at night. The 12 or more hours per day off the nest disrupts their routine enough so that they're over it in about a week, sometimes sooner.

I dont have a small crate
Look around at flea markets/yard sales.
I have 4 and didn't pay more than $20 for all but 1 of them(bought new).
They are a great tool to have for any chickeneer.

I been closing the nest up at night, but she goes right back in as soon as I open them up in the morning,
So needless to say, I have a small cage arriving today, I will give that method a try. I have noticed that when I take her out of the nesting box, some of the other hens go after her.
The cage is next

to bad your not closer i'd give ya some lol. but then again my persistent broody that broody breaker didn't work on finally brook after the whole flock wsa scared as they remember last broody that had chicks kicked any ones seat end that got to close to them without her permission, so today had to pull a chick from the incubator and she didn't' wanna be alone so she accepted it for a few then decided that was aenough, and moved laying boxes, after many months of not laying and egg she decided to finally and is gonna sit on her own again lol.
