Member Howard E has a great article on electric fencing. It might look intimidating at first but it really is easy to set up. It is the best line of defense for most predators. Personally I use both electric fencing and an anti-dig apron. Here is a link to his article:

Good examples of apron installation, tho I'd not recommend 1/2" HC...go with 14ga 1x2 or 1x1, will hold up much longer and is easier to lay flat.

well re-checking everything-- I was wrong. I have 1/4 inch hardware cloth I plan on using for an apron & 1 inch chicken wire I want to just put from the bottom of the coop to 2 ft tall so my chickens don't stick out their heads. Most of them don't but we have one called "Dummy" and she does just about everything you can think of to get herself killed. Today she disappeared for about 30 min. after all the other birds had come home, which they do when I call them. She has always been behind and often can't figure out where the door is to her run.. but never so long late. I was so anxious! Then here she comes as if nothing was wrong. I locked everyone up immediately, no more stress.
