chicken with bare back

Blu-kote works great but it is not approved for chickens in the food chain up to humans. OK for pet chickens.
But I had to use Blu-kote on a very nasty gash on Gertie's back. So I kept her isolated and non-laying for a couple of weeks.

2 roosters is one too many for a small backyard flock. They will compete with each other in hen domination, and it may get rough for the girls.

One rooster for ten or 12 hens is probably a good ratio, depending on the roo. We have a very gentle rooster who
never does any damage to a hen, in spite of being a randy fellow. But his father was a crazy roo, mean to humans and hens alike.
We had to give him away. After he left, there was so much peace in the yard, and all the hens healed up their sore backs. One
moult and they were back in their feathered glory.
