The news you’ve all been waiting for!

Sorry I haven’t been active!

It finally came out and you can tell she is feeling sweet relief!

Day 1 - Today!

I’ll be closely monitoring her nostril to make sure debris doesn’t get up in there during its closing process. It was already trying to close up over the debris, so today I finally had a really long session to get it out. It came out smoothly, like a plug.

She does still get orange snot out of her other nostril, what do you think that could be from?

It also looks like there’s more back there. That I wouldn’t want to try and get out with a toothpick, I might poke her brain.

Could I possibly fix this mucous with an antibiotic to keep it from happening again?

I do have the Tylosin! Can I mix it into the coops drinking water or should it be water exclusively for her?

Update: I’ve been keeping her inside just to monitor her after removal. I mixed up a half a gallon of Tylosin water. I’m storing it in a thoroughly cleaned out half gallon jug. I poured some out for her to drink and she didn’t seem to notice it wasn’t just plain water. She drank quite a bit.

That's wonderful! The Tylosin should hopefully help clear up that discharge- definitely looks like an infection going on in there

I sectioned off a portion of the loft in the coop for her. I have her own separate medicated water and food for her.

I would keep her inside my house but the last time I did that with a chicken it had to be for over a month. By the time I introduced her again they needed to re-establish the pecking order and it was not fun to watch.

I’m hoping she has a speedy recovery!

I would let her roost at night with the others, and she could be separated during the day for the Tylosin. That is wonderful that you got the plug out finally, but interesting that the orange drainage is back inside. Something must be going on in her sinus cavity, so hopefully the antibiotic will help.

That's so much better! Nice job.

I wonder if some of the mucous/pus is coming from the swelling above the eye. If you apply warm compresses to the eye area and give a gentle massage, does any pus/mucous come forward through the sinus?

Also look inside her beak, make sure the Choanal Slit is clean and clear of any mucous or pus that needs to be removed.

I agree, I'd start her on the Tylosin, hopefully this will help with too.
