Chicken with cold symptoms

response to # 8 Post
I do not have Keeping Chickens but I will look to check out the book and see what they have to say about colds and chickens. The thing about chickens being sick is you don't have much time, you need to get them treated and on the road to recovery as fast as possible. Your response time is very short it's the do or die thing most of the time I use to find years ago.

The same thing just happened to my chicken Mrs. Cluck!!!!I hope we can find a cure she is soooo sweet

Coughing is common to many poultry respiratory diseases and the only way to diagnose what your bird has is to have lab work and cultures done by a vet. Some people will do this if they want to know exactly what is going on in their flock so they can treat it accordingly.

When a bird is sick it needs to be kept warm and antibiotic's are often necessary to help prevent pneumonia. If a bird is wheezing and/or you can hear rattling breathing then you may want to start antibiotic's if you want to save the bird. None of these diseases are technically "curable" as the birds remain carriers after they've recovered. But the birds can usually be saved provided they are not allowed to deteriorate into pneumonia and secondary bacterial infections.

at TSC is where I got mine in small powder packages like where the electrolites for calves are its called Duramycin -10 or some number and says about amounts for poultry
