Chicken with large mass on belly

It seems to be larger than this morning and inflamed, she's lost all her feathers in that area. It's soft but not mushy. I don't beleive she's eating anything at this point but feel she must be drinking otherwise she'd be extremely weak and she very alert.

No I didn't mean cut it off if it was a large bump!!! I meant if it was literally like a bubble! We had a chick that the mom pecked his wing off and he had a large bubble thing come up, we cut it off and he seemed to fill so much better.

Is it possible she is eggbound??? Maybe you can put her in a warm water bath...and message her tummy, from the front back towards her vent. This may take a while..and make sure she is completely dry afterwards. You might try this several times....say for 5 to 10 min in the water.....dry, let her rest for a few hours, then try again. She might fuss a little at first...but should settle down...the warm water will be soothing. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. It's so hard not to know what I can do for her. My animals are like my kids (the furry kind). I have 6 dogs, 2 chickens, 1 cocktail.
I also worry about my other chicken that now is alone in the coop. Since I work during the day it's hard to keep watch on her. I'll try the soaking as a matter of fact I find her laying in her water dish in the crate that she's in now. Again thanks for all your help. I'll keep you informed.

If a vet is out of the question...it may be an abcess. I would take a needle and syringe and carefully insert it into the mass. Draw back on the syringe and see if you get fluid or pus. If so, you can lacerate the abcess and drain it. Flush with iodine and try to administer some antibiotics. One of my pullets had a nasty abcess in the same place last month and the feathers fell out also. Good luck.

It's a mass about the size of a tennis ball. Looks like she swolled a tennis ball and it drop to the bottom of her belly.

I have just now seen your email and looked for this post (the email got sent to my spam folder

) ... I do not check my spam folder daily...
How is your bird now? It does sound as though she is eggbound (please do not stick a needle into her and try to drain anything)
Did you try the warm bath?

If she is still the same...do you have some TUMS? Please give one to her immediately (crush up and put into a tsp of cooked and cooled off oatmeal then make a few "pellets" from it and dip those in oil and place in beak ...)...this is an emergency version of the calcium gluconate that the vet would give.... make sure she drinks... try the warm bath or place her on some nice steamy towels after oiling her cloaca (KY jelly is better if you have that to hand)

Thanks for your message. Unfortunatley I've not been able to get on the internet for about a week. So I'm just now seeing your post.

My girl is still hanging in there (god bless her) I have been giving her warm baths when I get home in the evening and I can't be positive but I do think it has gone down some.

I can get her to drink every now and again and of course she has water available at all times, whether she drinks it during the day I can't say. I haven't been able to get her to eat anything that I know of but again she has food avaliable at all times.

She is unable to stand on her own and unless I wedge her with towels ect.... Her one leg seems worst off than the other. She does however seem content in the bath.

I'll give your suggestion a try and let you know how we fare.

Thanks for your help.
