One of two chicks I got this February had gradually been losing mobility, I took her to an avian vet recently, and while he didn’t run any diagnostics, he was pretty much certain she has Mareks. Her quality of life has definitely decreased, and I’m planning on euthanizing her.
My question is more about my other chickens. The other hen she was raised with has no symptoms of Mareks. I have four other chickens, who while not housed together have had contact with the two. 3 of those four are unvaccinated. From what I understand all of my chickens are now infected with the disease.
I have no interest in euthanizing them unless they are suffering; what is likelihood the unvaccinated birds will develop symptoms? What about her coop mate? I obviously can’t get anymore chickens, but I’m kind of at a loss on what to do. I love my birds and I don’t want them to suffer.
