I have a 1 year old, road island red. 3 days ago I noticed while she was on the roost that her neck was hanging below the roost itself. I let her out of the coop and she seemed to be fine all day. The next morning she had the left eye shut and having problems with her neck, having trouble walking, walking into things. At the local feed store I purchaced VETERICYN for her eye and TETRACYLINE to add to water. She is not doing better, sleeping all the time, responds to my voice but goes into this weird/ disturbing twitch with her neck. I have her separated from the rest. When she sleeps, twists her neck, when I put watermellon by her good eye she can pick out the seeds. I called the local vet and they cant tell me anything unless I bring her in, I have an appiontment tonight at 6pm for her. I hate to se my hen like this....Has anyone seen this???? Is it treatable????Please help

Very sorry your hen is sick wish I could be more help, I'll get you bumped up. Please let us know what the vet says.

Thanks for a reply.......The vet gave her fluids under the skin as well as Baytril, sent me home with some to give her every 12 hours. We are hoping it a bacterial infection but as of this morning she is not better. If she is not better by Tomorrow I will put her down due to suspected parasite. I am already bumbed out so please if you have any advise that will save my other hens...lay it on me
The other hens are fine, just want to make sure I am helping not hurting them....My vet didnt really give any answers......its all about the money before they help

Could it be wry neck / crook neck. I'm dealing with this right now with my 13 week old light brahma. Try researching it and see if it matches up.
