No other symptoms, except maybe one small soar on her face near the infected eye. I've treated twice today with gentamyacin (sp?) ointment. Eating, free ranging, everything else normal. The other eye is *perfect.*

I'm leaning toward just an injury that got infected. Anything else I should watch for? Other stories?

I've looked at lots of diseases, but it seems most of them should affect both eyes and/or have other symptoms as well.

She's a 18ish week RIR pullet, not laying yet. I've had her for months... so it's not a new bird issue. In fact, we haven't brought anything in since April or earlier and the rest of the flock is great. I can separate her, but I hate to, and my isolation cage has a pullet it it that's healing an injured leg. She's better, but not ready to join the flock.

Thanks.

Well, the actual eye looks worse, but the rest of her is still great and she doesn't act off at all.

Yesterday it was open and yucky all around. Today it was closed. :-( I put more ointment on it, but I'm not optomistic that the eye will heal. I would guess that I will have a lovely healthy one-eyed hen. LOL. I told my DD that she can still be sweet, lay beautiful eggs, and hatch us all sorts of cute babies.

Anything better I could use on the eye if something like this happens again? I have access to a good feed store very close or could order it to have on hand. Thanks!

Respiratory diseases like mycoplasma OFTEN affect only one eye (you'd think it would be both, but oddly enough just one eye is usually affected). It's also possible an injury to the eye in which case you are doing what I would do. You can also try washing the eye out with saline to see if there's any junk you can clean out.

I really would suggest isolating her tho, just in case.

Thanks. Her eye is better than yesterday. I let her free range today, but kept her out of the coop. She was in isolation all day/night yesterday.
