Good morning. I have an 8 week old speckled Sussex. Yesterday my daughter brought her to me and said there is something wrong with her eye. She was keeping it closed (no drainage, or swelling and only one eye) she would open it every now and then but then close it back. I have a big dirt bath in my coop and this girl loves to spend time in it. which is what made us think debris. My daughter said she was in dirt bath before she noticed it. By end of day she seemed less active than others almost like it was painful. I separated her from the rest of girls and flushed eye with saline. She still kept it closed last night. Ended up eating and drinking then went to bed.
This am the eye is open. There is no cloudiness or signs anything is wrong with it. She came out of crate right to me this am. I gave her some electrolyte water and food and she ate and drank like normal. Poop looks normal too. Should I watch her one more day or let her back with her sisters? is there any reason to treat with a veterycin eye ointment or just hope saline worked?
thanks, I’m a new chicken mama and just want her to be ok.. hated seeing her uncomfortable last night!
