Chicken with swollen leg

Hello ! ,

One of my hens has a very swollen leg that is warm to the touch. I am familiar with bumblefoot but dont think that this is it as the whole leg is swollen not just the underside of her foot. I shall post a picture tomorrow as i just put a light dressing on it earlier. I have bathed it in iodine pevidine from the vets and also a little hydrogen peroxide. I covered it with vet wrap but i cant see any cuts or anything, I'm just wondering what else i can do? are there any antibiotics or anti-inflammatory i could get for her? she is very lame on it and i just want to help make her more comfortable . I actually work at a vets as a nurse and the only reason i am not bringing her in is because my vets are not familiar with hens. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this problem in hens? I'll post a pic asap

Hello and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your hen, you might want to post about her on the Emergencies forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures for help. Bumblefoot can make the whole leg swell up if the infection has spread.

Yes, pic will help a lot. Lots of reasons a leg can swell, from injury, infection, leg scale mites and even MS infections. I would follow the link that Kelsie has provided to the emergency section here on BYC for some good help.
