So I had gone out for a bit and my mother forgot to count the chickens before locking them into their coop. She left out a hen of mine and when I found her she was frozen and had foam in her beak and when I picked her up she just would not close it. Her neck is sticking out too and it won't move. It's been 3 days and she's moving around but whenever I pick her up her beak swings back open and it's hard to close it's almost as if it's frozen but she's in her coop with the heating lamps on. Help!!

A chicken that has a chronic gaping beak is showing signs of extreme stress. A gaping beak can also indicate a problem breathing. It can also mean the chicken is overheated.

Let's back up to her ordeal being left out in the freezing cold. That is a pretty extreme experience both physically and emotionally for a chicken and can cause extreme stress. The proper treatment upon finding a chicken in this condition is to treat them with rapid warming and electrolyte-laced fluids.

For the future, you can rapidly warm a frozen chicken by using a warm blow dryer under their wing pits and abdominal area where blood flow is at its highest volume. Or you can place a frozen chicken is a shallow basin of warm water just covering the feet and legs. (No wet feathers.) But if you see signs of frostbite on the feet, do not use this warming method unless you can keep her warm. It's best not to warm frost bite if the chicken is going back out where it's freezing.

Look at your hen's comb and wattles and facial tissue. If it's grey to purple in color, she may have a respiratory obstruction. Look into her mouth and back of throat for any swelling or mucous buildup.

Finally, slip a thermometer under the heat source where you have her. It should not be more than 70-80F. It doesn't take long under hot temps to cause heat stress which is indicated by cherry red skin around the face and a gaping beak as she's trying to pant and shed excess heat.

Hi @Chickiessocute
You mention she is able to move around a little - can you take a video of her? Upload it to youtube, then provide us a link.
If you can't do video, some photos may be helpful.

Does she only open the beak when you pick her up? Are you trying to close the beak while you are holding her?
Is she able to eat/drink on her own?

I put her into the coop right under the heating lamp with the other chickens. She waddled over to them and cuddled up with my other hen. She won't leave that part of the coop though where the heat is the greatest. Won't even go down to eat is what I'm seeing

Her comb is a little grey and I'll check her throat when I get home. I gave her some electrolyte water and the coop is at a good 75°. I'll post some pictures of her as well and she can close her beak when I set her down but whenever I pick her up it just drops open.

Yes, photos of her please.
How old is she?

O.K. so she is only keeping the beak open if you hold her?
IF she is not eating/drinking then she will be in trouble very soon. Can you put food/water near her and watch to see if she will eat/drink on her own?
