chickenosaur?

T-Rex.

I'll bet it tastes like chicken. No wonder they're extinct.

Imagine, Buster putting ONE of those eggs in his sportsman!

I was at the Dr's office yesterday and read this same article , I was totally fascinated.
I didn't know there was a produced show for it , now I am going to have to watch the Science channel.

Its really not a huge stretch to think Chickens many have evolved down from a form of a dinosaur, if you look at the feet for instance, then you add in the balance of body head and feet its truly an amazing thought process.
it isn't a far jump from some of those huge birds they think existed before the last mass extinction.

The question I was reading ( and I wish I could remember which science magazine I was reading.) was did the last extinction actually kill off the last of the dinasaurs or did they simply evelove to what we see now?
I wish the article was a bit more indepth.

Hey I saw that too, but when I went looking for a pic of it for my avatar, I found soooo much more info, and other dino related pics... lol

I have seen a few docs on this subject.
A few universities have been pursuing this for quite a long time.

Interesting enough, one university has been working with the Silkie chickens. They have a boat load of silkies that they use for eggs and they experiment with the eggs turning certain genes on while the egg is developing. I believe they got one to grow a fairly large tail.

I do not remember if they let these embryos actually live hatch out.

Apparently, the silkie has the type of feathers that a dinosaur may have had.

If I run across this again, I will post it.

Neat!

As to the re-creation of dinos. What can I say, people have been so fascinated by them for so long that there is no way they won't try. It's every kids dream, and many adults' dream, adults with a lot of knowledge, skills, creativity and inherent curiosity. So yeah, there is no way it won't be tried.

I think my chickies look like dinos. God forbid the things were any bigger. A three foot tall chicken would take great pleasure in going after people.

I think cloning a mammoth is not too far off. They have a fairly closly related living animal in the elephant, good DNA from arctic samples and a lot of experience in mammal cloning. I think the slow reproductive rates of elephants would make it more difficult.

I think it would be cool to see animals from the past; but I have some concerns about the whole cloning of extinct animals. First I think that for most of the animals, the habitat is gone or changed too radically; secondly, we should try to preserve animals and plants that are currently endangered. Third, I read Jurassic Park, and the thing that scared me the most was the shear ignorance of the scientists involved. Yes, I know it was fiction, but who would be behind it? The whole owning an entire gene line kinda creeps me out too, because you know it would be patented.

Still, wouldn't it be cool to see passenger pigeons or dodos. They were wiped out in recorded history, and theoretically would be easier to find DNA for.
