what kind of trap are you talking about? Is it live, a snap trap? Pictures of you traps, or off the internet would help. What are you trapping, and what exactly do you mean by "caught in the trap" and "I don't think she could reach the trigger"? Welcome to BYC!

Do you know what it is for? What you trap with it? How it works? How would a chicken get caught in that?

Yikes! Can you put a cardboard box over it or something? I put snap traps in my chicken coop when I see droppings, but I put them in a cardboard box with the little hole cut out and the top of the box taped shut so the chickens can’t try to investigate.

Dog proof traps are the small ones that say a racoon can reach into. Same basics as a foot hold, but doesn't need to be stepped on. She would physically have to stick her head in it. Maybe set them at night only. Or where your chickens don't go.
