Chickens and Dogs

I'd say it depends on the individual dog. Temperaments can vary so widely that it is hard to say what a dog will do. I have two younger dogs, my boxer is going on three and her puppy is less than a year and they are both fine with the chickidees. Our older dog who is better than ten has to be watched very closely. My boxer is very prey driven, but she steers clear of the chickens. I believe it is because I am her person and she knows the chickens are my loves. I think that if she sensed that I didn't like my chickens, they'd be fair game for her.

You know your dogs. Go with your gut.

Everyone runs together in my yard. I don't have a problem with my dogs BUT in the beginning I did have to watch VERY carefully and give the "leave it" command often but it didnt take to long and everyone was fine with each other including my lastest hen that I got from the city pound, she was brought in with a broken leg that a dog did so I was concerned with how she would react to my dogs. I have had her 2 months now and she isn't nervious at all around them
I know I would trust just any dog with the birds, it really depends on the breed of the dog and their personality!
