first off my wife and I live in Michigan... we just got 13 hens and we think 3 roosters about 2 weeks ago, I have built a 6x12 coop 6 ft tall the run is 17 x 27.... the problem I have is that our neighbor seen the chicks and he and his wife went and got two little ducks about 2 days after we got our chicks... I went over there today and the ducks were huddle in the corner of there pen because the pen was so dirty ... ( I could hardly take a breath) to make the story short the ducks are now in a clean pen next to our pen that our chicks are in. We have a pond out back that is plenty big we have mallards that stop in and feed quite often but we have 5 dogs ... I was thinking of putting a duck house out by the pond after they were old enought am I crazy?

no your not crazy that was nice of you to take them in cause there living conditions were bad. i would first see how the dogs react to the ducks and see if they get along if not i would put some kinda fencing around there house and let them out during the day or while your whatching them. also i did this once i put a duck coop on the water it was a floating one and my dogs were to scared to go out there so it worked.

thanks alot I'm sure that two of my dogs are not gonna like them 1. Charlie aka jack russell... spends 90 % of his time trying to catch my bullfrogs ive been raising for 2 yrs
and 2. Dixie minature Dutson and is jealous of everthing...

naw we keep them away from them im hoping after we get the chicks to there pen that the dogs will adapt... all our dogs but 1 are adopted... so they adapted to each other the chicken pen and coop are safe... we just never had ducks on the farm when I was a kid I may try and put them together for a while untill I figure out something better
