Chickens and egg laying

What does a Hen look for when she's laying an egg? I have a chicken who just absolutely loves to snuggle with me when I curl up on the couch.. And she always lays eggs like that. Is it just comfort? protect? Does she trust me?? what is going on in her head that makes her want to do that?

edit: This particular Hen I've been through a lot with. I've treated her for sickness multiple times and she always gets to lay on the couch with me all day I've protected her from attacks on a few occasions where I was able to stop the cat or possum from hurting her. I really hope shes just has a strong bond with me or something and im not just a comfortable place to lay an egg lol and I raised her from a baby

My hens seem to calm down and not want to move when about to lay an egg. They will stand up, with their back end pointing down, and it will eventually pop out.
