My chicks in the brooder do nooooot like all the boom-booming going on around here on Whidbey Island. Peeping away like a wild animal got caught in there!

I have to wonder though, fireworks have been going on steadily, without a second's pause, for well over an HOUR here. And this is just the backyard boomers, not the pros. Who the heck has the cashola for all this noise in what's supposedly a country in a recession???? I want to know what they do for a living!

My chickens seemed frightened by all the noise too (much of it coming from our back yard with 20+ relatives). They didn't seem to be as bothered before dark, but when I put them to bed the older ones (9 weeks) were all huddled up in one corner. The babies ( 2 to 5 weeks), who weren't included in the huddle, made a pig pile of their own.

All is quiet now so I hope they are settled down.

my chickens did ok, tonight in spite of all the loud banga boom booms, tomato lady , not to stray from this thread, your photo is that a Black Crested Polish? if so, how do you tell hen from roo i have two and one is a splash grey/black other is black, ...black one is a Roo no doubt saw him crowing, but not sure about the other one

Last night my distant neighbors had a big shindig with plenty of fireworks, the noise didn't seem to bother them but there was a very heavy cloud of smoke that kept wafting into the coop. I was concerned so I went into the coop they were roosting but not very comfortable, and the haze inside was pretty thick. I set up the box fan and that helped I think they are ok now.

Every year here 3-5 neighbors have a HUGE party with thousands of dollars worth of illegal fireworks that seem to go on for hours, from 9:30 til 1 am easy. My chickens freak out bigtime, having several roosters at the moment made for a bit too much noise coming from my house. Great show tho. I'd hate to have to pick that mess up, it's bad enough having the neighbors behind me lighting big stuff off and having it land in MY trees and all over MY yard!!! That really ticks me off!

My chickens did fine...but my American Saddlebred gelding sure thought the world was going to end! And he's 18!!!!

Long night. Next year all the horses are going to be aced up good.

The chickens and I will have a glass of wine!

I worried about the fireworks also last night .... we had a small family get together here complete with fireworks. It was absolutely wonderful!! ALL of my animals, inlcuding the hog which lives outside and my little goat and my chickens handled it just fine. The hog sat at his feeder eating while the fireworks were going off. I guess after stock shows nothing much phases him anymore!!!! The chickens were all right for the most part. My older hens and roos roosted just like they always do but the newly hatched chicks were huddled in the corner cheeping. Everyone was more upset over me turning the light on in the barn then the fireworks. We got our usual number of eggs this morning!!

I am just thankful that we don't have close neighbors! I would HATE to have to put up with another's choices if they were not mine. Especially if their trash was all over my yard and I had to pick it up!
