Hi! I was wondering if anyone else is raising turkeys with their chickens. We have two, a Tom and a hen named Christmas and Easter. They’re a lot of fun and their hilarious to watch. They live with our eight chickens. They have their own turkey roost while the chickens have their own coop. They all get along great. If you do have turkeys, do you feed them special feed or the same food as the chickens?

Once the turkeys are adults they will do fine on the same feed as the chickens. The young turkeys have higher nutritional needs than the chickens but the proper feed for turkey poults will not harm the chicks. When I raise chicks and poults together, they all get a 28% protein turkey/gamebird starter.

You may want to check out the Turkeys forum.

G’Day from down under JMBer2c ... Belated Welcome!

I see that you have been a member for a while now but as you have posted your question on the New Members Forum, I am going to take the opportunity to say Hello :frow

That is an adorable picture of you and your turkeys! :love

Sorry, I have no experience with Turkeys, just chickens, but you might want to post your question on the Turkey Forum [Edited to Add: ooops, I see R2elk beat me to it! ;)]

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you've joined us! I keep my turkeys and chickens together until they move outside with the adults. I used to let them all free range together and they got along great but my turkeys tend to wander too far (my neighbors didn't appreciate it) so I had to pen them up. I personally feed all the same food to everyone.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy that you've decided to join us:ya Like @R2elk I feed to the highest common denominator. When I have chicks with young poults, everyone gets turkey starter or grower. Once in the pasture they all get the same feed as well. The only time they get different feed is when they move into the winter housing (aka breed pens) at that time each breed and sex has a special mix for the first 30 days and then the boys move to the girls feed for the next 60 or so days, when they come out and back to pasture, everyone goes back to their normal feed.
