Have you seen some of the coop plans and set-ups here on BYC? I'd move into some of them in a heartbeat! You could always go and live in the coop and let the chickens in the house.

Oops - that was meant as a generalization, not an accusation, honest! I've had a lot of fun reading and participating in this thread. It's really neat to get opinions and perspectives from so many angles and people. That's the best part of BYC - we can have open discussions, fantasy, reality and anything (and everything!) in between. I love it!Take what I said negatively if you want...but I judged no one.
There's no such thing as "only a teenager!" Teens are real people, too, and a fresh perspective is always welcome! Especially if the teen is a budding Crazy Chicken Lady, like you!she is quite and doesn't make messes and is the only one that has survived of my first two batches and do not forget I am only a tenager
I utterly agree! As long as good hygiene and care are kept, they make good pets!Ok, i'm going to give my full honest thoughts on this keep in mind i'm an adult lady of 43 years of age and while my girls don't live inside I have been known to bring at least two of them inside for a few hours either for upkeep/medical reasons or I just wanted a movie buddy. Ok here goes, if I had a child that wanted a house chicken i'd not only be ok with it i'd encourage it. Simple reason, life is much too short not to enjoy and often childhood makes up most of our good memories because let's face it being an adult stinks rotten. I personally don't see a huge difference between having a dog or a cat or even a parakeet verses a chicken. They all poop, make noise, get bugs, destroy stuff, and can possibly give you diseases. But people can do that too, so not a huge issue chicken or no chicken the pitfalls are there either way. Now the child would have to care for the chicken and i'm talking top notch that chicken better smile or it becomes MY chicken and the child would have to be poop patrol no wiggle room there either i'm not a fan of house poop out of anything. But yeah, i'd let my kid do it in a heartbeat. I'd honestly be way harder to convince if they wanted a puppy or kitten, those bite and come into heat and have "bits" that need to be removed or they turn into nasty terrors. You don't have to worry about a silkie spraying the sofa or mauling the neighbor.![]()
well my silkie roo has tried and failed to intimidate neighbours.I guess going around on walks in a neon pink harness injures his manly dignity(which does not exist in his case).and my hen baby is going to be my new comfort babe when creamello bedello gets her one way pass to chick heaven, and most of the time it feels like my three babies who already got their own passes are following me.plus chickens are waaaaay cuter than cats and yes I actually do live in the coop during the day so what if I sound crazy?I could care less about what people say about me it's how you survive jr high
