chickens as house pets? Opinions and views

Hope you don't ever have kids! They're way grosser than a tiny chicken in a diaper.
I have 3 kids....yes they can be messy. Indoor pets are just gross. I won't eat at people's house if they have house pets. Animals belong outside in the wild. Heck people belong outside. The home is for eating, sleeping, and protection from the weather. We should be outside as much as possible.

I have a chair outside also and sit and talk to my girls...I find it my relaxation away from everything else...soothes the soul.
agree - chicken watching is VERY relaxing, and, they don't judge - they play close attention to what you do and talk to you, sing to you, I love my chickens - but would NEVER bring them in the house....I have a hard enough time keeping the coop clean enough for my standards, lol

I don't think it's disgusting keeping chickens indoors. But I do think it's inhumane for a chicken to be kept indoors instead of being outdoors. Chickens love being able to roam freely outside, foraging, dust bathing, sun bathing, hunting for small critters, and just being outside. They wouldn't be getting enough vitamin D being kept inside and they would be pretty bored and depressed indoors most of their lives. So I honestly wouldn't recommend having indoor chickens.

Most indoor chickens still spend time outside just like a dog does. Mine do.
My guys are very good at sunbathing in the rays from the windows, foraging off my dinner plate, free roaming through the house like they own it, and generally being little bums. They also love their creature comforts- they sleep on pillows by our heads in the bed, don't worry about cold weather, rain or snow, and don't have to worry about parasites or predators. They even watch and comment on the TV. They're funny and I think they're very happy.
