chickens as house pets? Opinions and views

okay that makes more sense.and why do my chickens always greet me after school?is it because theiy love me or are theiy just wanting treats not affection
It doesn't matter whether or not anyone thinks a chicken has emotions or feelings (and anyone who has seen a rooster "sulk" knows that answer!) For whatever reason, treats or attention, the fact of the matter is that your biddies want to be near you. They associate you with pleasant things, and if that's not affection, of a sort, I don't know what is!

New development, could my August be a roo?
Just ready to hit 4 months old.
August is a mixed breed of Faverolle and ???

The colour of the comb makes me think not but those tail feathers do have quite a sheen to them. Have a look at the base of the tail under the larger feathers and see if there are any very skinny saddle feathers coming through there. It might be a bit early yet though. Some pullets do get rooster shaped tails that then molt out to a more rounded shape. Keep us posted.

Thank you I appreciate the info.
August has just gone through the first molt after losing the baby down. Feathers are still falling out but not in the frightening amount that they were last month. Arnt they supposed to molt 2 or 3 times before their adult feathers come in?
Being a barnyard mix its really hard to tell what will the final result be lol. As I understand it Faverolles as well as Easter Eggers develope slower?
So at about 4 months Im still going back and forth on gender. Up until I saw these which look like saddle feathers consensus was that August is a pullet.
Will keep posting updates :)
