Chickens by Easter .... Maybe

Thinking of having my daughter print this image on the side of a coffee mug for me with the caption "Chicken Daddy". That should give my mornings a proper start.
I had an Image of DD, and her puppy, printed on a cup. Went thru Walmart photo. (all on line) Made it so she can use at work,,, and it sure is personalized,,,, No one can grab it and accidentally use it,,, :gig :lau

Some of the family have been teasing me about the "Chicken Daddy" thing so I thought I would make it official and give them something else to poke fun at.

I have been looking for reasonably priced egg cartons for months now and can only find them for around a buck each. Even the bulk stuff is about a buck each.

One of the collectives let me know that they were talking to a guy with a case of brand new in the box paper egg cartons for 10 bucks. Sounded like a deal at .14 cents each so I told them to buy are trade for them. They are for one dozen eggs and the case contains 144 items.

Just another sign that eggs are on the way ..... Mother Nature. Go figure.

Edit: Sorry, my sums were a little off. They are .07 cents each not .14 cents.

Our birds are weird. They don't get enough treats to be spoiled so it has to be that they're just weird. I'm going to give them the watermelon in the morning, depending on what this tropical storm decides to do, and see if they will eat it. Just because chickens are supposed to like something doesn't mean my weird crew will.

Of course they go nutz over the scratch, they like cabbage, and they fight over cantaloupe. They will even stand in line, more or less, to be fed grass seed stalks one at a time by the wife, but they won't eat them if you drop them into the run. Lettuce of any variety is a nonstarter. Won't touch it. What's amusing is that it isn't just one that likes or dislikes something, it's all of them.

Just happy they aren't picky about their feed .......

I usually consume the watermelon,:gig, but give the end heels, with some red melon to my chickens. They eat it up,,,:drool:drool:drool as well as all the green cucumber like inner core. All that is left is a thin outer skin after a day.
Many peeps in southern portions during HOT SUMMER HEAT offer refrigerated watermelon to their chickens.

Can chickens eat watermelon seeds out of a fresh watermelon? One of ours is small and misshapen so I was going to just cut it in half and let the girls have at it.

The current flock gets all the watermelon rinds and any that are underripe or grainy plus all the seeds.

My former flock got the melons that were too old to sell from the produce stand where I worked then. (Not rotten, just old and grainy).

First egg ……. About half size but perfectly formed. It’s the small one between the two fakes.
