Chickens, and dogs, and cats, and bunnies, and if I'm not careful she wants a grazing animal next. She is asking for a pygmy milking goat pair for next year. Goodness. She has her sights set on going to Oklahoma State University for the veterinary program and I'm just trying to make sure that she has everything at her disposal to make that goal a reality. After 5 years of wanting to be a vet I guess she might not change her mind
And if she does, well she still learned a lot about animals, life, science, and math. Yup we use math at this here backyard farm.
We went to Zamzow's today, which is an Idaho animal, garden, and yard store that produces their own feed and fertilizers. As we were coming in a gal at the check out started chatting with Madi because of her crutches. She asked what kind of pet she has and Madi proudly said "I have chickens!" and the gal said that she wanted backyard chickens, and her husband was like "oh no no no no chickens" and I told him "really, chickens are excellent pets, they are fairly easy to take care of once you have them set up and they can be pretty loyal and loving too." He stopped and looked at me for a minute. Then he said "really?" and I said yup. His wife said she grew up on a farm and had chickens her whole life and she really wanted some now. She asked Madi if she planned to show her chickens, and Madi told her yes, and she said "good girl you're just like me" It was really cool.
