Chickens carry tons of diseases... (CPS alert!)

Thank you, she tells me that all the time. I'm pretty lucky to have her for a daughter. I've just kinda ran around town doing what I needed to do without thought of sticking around for them. I got struck by chicken math today. I picked up 5 black Jersey Giant pullets that were 9 weeks old from a gal that didn't realize they took so long to mature so she wanted to get different birds. They are really sweet because her 12 year old handled them a lot and hand fed them. So 2 of those my friend took and 3 I took. We went to D & B and picked up her 2 Brahma babies that came in. They had Araucana pullets that came in too (we all know they are really Easter Eggers) my daughter really wanted those. I decided to get 2 more brahmas too. Somehow when I was picking out chicks, and getting 2 for my friend in my box too, I was talking to a couple educating them about chcikens and I got too many chicks!

I came home with 9 chickens. I had 5 already at the house. Now I have 14 pullets. What the heck happened to me! so I have 3 that are 2 months, 2 that are 5 weeks, 3 that are 1 week, and 6 that are 1 day old.

4 EE, 3 BJG, 4 Light Brahma, 2 SLW, and 1 BSL

Yup, I'm done I swear. I drove the stuff for the run to my backyard and the older biddies are all in the new coop for the night. Unhappy to be alone which broke my heart but it was necessary. They are all too big to be in the house with the other pets right now. My dog still foams at the mouth at the site of a chicken walking by.

Evil old lady :p I went to a gal's house today that had a bunch of birds out in a run with a big coop out back, the 9 week old babies penned separate from the older hens, and they had at least 50 chicks at varying ages in a room in their house. I think it was an office. Her house didn't smell bad, It was a bit cluttered but not dirty at all. The kitchen and bathroom were very sanitary. I was comfortable using her restroom and I'm a shy pee-er if the place is icky. She apologized for the house but she didn't need to. All I could think was if my 2 chicks were bad this would send her to hell with CPS. Poor girl. It wouldn't even be fair to her either.

Your M-I-L needs to just go lay an egg :p

Why yes! Something did happen. I found out that my lawyer friend is a crappy lawyer. She probably makes great contracts and legal documents though. Would make an amazing paralegal....

My best friend however, She is awesome and will make a great lawyer when she graduates. She got a lot of information for me. Including this:

on March 1st, 2011 the Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to detain or seize a child while at school for questioning without a warrant, court order, or parental consent. In addition a parent, guardian, lawyer, or parental approved third party adult must be present to protect the child's 4th amendment rights.

Today, that was violated. While I was out in Middleton, ID (40 minutes away) meeting a lovely woman and her daughter with my best friend and getting my Jersey Giants, 2 CPS workers came to my daughter's school and informed them that they had spoken with me and obtained permission to speak with my daughter. My daughter was detained as she got off her school bus from a field trip at 12pm to be interviewed by cps officials. She was asked if our home was clean and safe, why we had chickens, how were the chickens housed, how many pets we had, why the cat box was dirty and if it was clean, how she broke her foot, and if I ever hurt her in anyway.

My daughter made me proud. Despite not knowing she had the right to refuse questioning without me or a lawyer, she answered the questions honestly and without being baited. She told them that our chicks box was being cleaned and they were on clean brown paper to protect the carpet while the box was being washed at our back door. She told them that the chickens are always in their box unless we carry them ourselves or take them outside. She told them that we use a farm bedding for horses for our cat box and told them how it works. She also said that not only was our house clean it was very very clean and that her mother works very hard to study, take care of her, and keep a clean house. She said all our pets are clean too. She told them exactly what pets we had and when they asked why 2 cats and a dog and the chickens she replied that she is autistic and she does animal therapy as well as 4H and is wanting to become a vet so her mother helps her care for pets so she can learn about them and go to college one day to save animals.

She made me so proud. So very proud. I was very upset for her though. She was distressed that I woudl allow them to come and I told her I hadn't even talked to them. They did not try to call me before or after. They made no attempt to contact me and they blatently lied. They broke the law. I told her to learn the 4th amendment and that she does not have to talk to ANYONE without her parent or lawyer and if anyone ever wants to ask her questions, even if it's the truth, don't answer without mommy, daddy, or a lawyer mommy or daddy sends. Just repeat that to them over and over until they get the hint. Children have rights too and this right is being upheld in the courts now.

I spoke with her counselor today. Her counselor was really mad. She said that she doesn't know a ton about the CPS system first hand as she is a licensed clinical masters of psychology counselor not a degree in social work and has not worked for the social work system. She did say, however, that she has seen a rise in these occurrences with her clients and the story seems to be the same thing. False charges leading to an inspection leading to illegal interviewing and threats to seize children from good homes. She is going to write a letter for us examining the psychology damage that such trauma could do to Madison and the type of home we have as she has known us for over 3 years. We have seen her every week with very little gaps for vacations and illnesses.

I'm ready to RUMBLE!!!!!!!!

oh and I um got all my chicken run stuff and I let my daughter pick out the paint and she got 2 colors. Lilac Rose and River Rock. It's a rosey purple and a soft greyish blue. The coop will be purple with blue trim and the run posts will be blue. ...

I did make her scoop chicken poop out of the coop so I coudl clean it for the girls to sleep in tonight. She didn't like that but after I'll the work I've done I said it's an easy job you can do that one :p

She also had to hobble around to catch the 3 black birds because she insisted she get them. She caught them easily they all came up to her. Stinking chicken whisperer.

Oh, and we took the 6 new chicks into the counseling office with us in their box, and her counselor helped her name them all

Interesting! Is that new law just for your state or does it apply for all 50 states?...
Good thing to know...

Oh, it's not heresay or anything. She actually showed me the case documentation. It's fairly new that it was enforced in this way. Some parents in Oregon about 6 years ago were wrongfully accused of abusing their daughter. The specific accusation was that the child was physically abused by her father. It was a claim, I believe, made by a neighbor or something. Anyway, the little girl was waiting for the school bus and some workers come to talk to her. They say they need to speak with her and her bus starts coming down the road. She says she has to get on the bus to school and they said that she couldn't go until she spoke with them. She was concerned that these were "stranger danger" and she didn't want to miss the bus so she said ok. They asked if her dad hurt her and she said yup and hopped on the bus and left as fast as she could.

This was used as evidence to remove the child from the home and charge the parents with abuse. The parents fought the case and it went all the way to the supreme court in addition to another case that was related to this ruling. After this, the parents did sue the state and won.

The judge essentially laughed at the person representing CPS and said, so what do you do to not bring up traumatic events without seizing them or putting them in a room which would scare them, do you just walk down the hall while they are on their way to lunch and say "Hey there, so does your dad hit you?" and he LAUGHED at them.

I will ask her to get my the links for the case files and point out where to look. I don't 100% know how to read case documents. She's taken courses in legal research and legal writing already on her way to law school. She's pre-law. We are both having a pre-pre-midlife crisis I guess. She's 43 and I'm 31 and we both went back to college to get new careers. She is becoming a lawyer and wants to fight jerks like the system and help abused women and low income parents pro-bono. She isn't doing it for the money or anything. Just cause she wants to.

I am going back to school to become a clinical psychologist and also a professor at some point. It shall be grand!

And we both have chickens. lots, and lots, and lots, of chickens.

All I can say is OMG the nerve of our society these days appalls me............. I have heard this time after time,
while my hubbies X is a welfare loving good for nothing, drugged out drunk who has been reported at least 8 times that we know of and we can not even get CSS to open a case for removal of his kids who have been abused, and sexually assaulted by her brother and step father, even our CSS here wanted that done after the last bout of bull but IA is so backwards it's insane. Then I read this and it makes my blood just boil.........
I'm glad you are strong and calm because I would have beaten someone by now.argggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Kim
