Chickens: Chicken Stock

That stove is an engineered masterpiece. It appears you have added more bells and whistles to it. I had DH come and look at it too.

How did your maple trees do? I have to go back and read your posts. I thought you said 500 trees; is that right? If so, that's a lot of maple syrup, even boiling it down. I read that Canada did not have a good year.

Love your posts. Tell us more, maybe what kind of goats you have. I assume they are milk goats. My favorite breed is the Nubian simply because they don't have horns. We are now too old to get back into too many laborious projects. It was the most fun time in our lives.

This wasn't a good year in my AO either, the weather changed too quickly to get much quality sap. The elevation I live at helped me and I had a good year. We gathered sap for the last time yesterday and boiled last night so our season is now done. My final total was 75 gallons.

Thanks. I don't have any dairy goats yet but I will have a couple very soon. I'm leaning toward Nubies but I haven't decided yet. I have a herd of Boer meat goats now that I love. I still have another 8 does due mid-May...

LOL, I don't sell it but I've had such a good year I'd trade you a half gallon for something from your area. Do you forage? We're still weeks away from shrooms and I'd love some morels or chanterelles? Something else?

I'm inspired! I'm going to try this with some odds and ends I've been saving in my freezer. I would like to ask if you have made on posts on how to can chicken stock? I'd love to free up my freezer space by canning the stock!

I just put the vegies and chicken parts in the oven for the stock, it smells so yummy. I am new to processing my own chickens, just processed my first five ever. Then for the first time I will can, of course canning the stock I make. My mom and grandparents did these things and I remember watching them. Brings back homey feelings just thinking about it. I want my kids to know that feeling as well. So as the smell of the delicious stock fills my home and my memories of childhood are running thru my mind; I just wanted to say thanks for the great recipe and helping me return, one chicken at a time, back to my roots.
