I have a buff orpington that we got at 17 weeks. Her comb was funky but I thought maybe she was picked on before we got her. I got her in September and now it is December and it is still damaged looking. Any ideas what the white splotchy and black marks are. She is happy, eats and lays well.
Thanks!

Welcome To BYC!

The black spots look like peck marks to me. The white is probably dryness, but you could put a dab of coconut oil or baby oil on the comb to help heal it a bit.

How much space do you have in your coop/run?

Thank you for replying so quickly! We have a large run, 12 x 12’ that I rearrange and try to keep them busy. They free range a few hours a day. I have six chickens in it and right now nobody is picking on anybody. I have a Nest camera and watch them throughout the day when I’m not home. I will try to moisturize it and see how that works. It’s weird that the black spots haven’t healed after a couple of months.

Chickens are sneaky that way LOL They get a peck in at roosting time or at the feeder.
Sometimes peck wounds gets re-picked continually and they are slow to heal.
She may also be getting against wire or something and re-injuring the comb.
