Second, I'm so thankful they aren't laying yet or I don't think I'd eat the next few. Best if the do those things out of my sight.

She totally beat it to death first. She was wacking in back and forth on the ground in between running from her buddies who were trying to steal it. It was truly comical.

My chickens are all tiny, Id be more worried about frogs eating them. But I also have a huge aylesbury duck called Jemima, who will eat anything that moves.

She likes to swallow frogs whole, but if I see her with one I always try to rescue it. Im sure she gets loads when Im not around, but all the ones Ive liberated have been fine.

Jemima sulks for the rest of the day though when you take one off her, its really funny.

I wondered about the toads as well, Mine caught a skink the other day and beat it to death then DH took it away because we were afraid she'd choke on it. I think chickens stay away from toads, we have a ton around here and never have i seen them with one, frogs yes but never toads

I was watering the containers that hold the blackberries (unless you're planning on letting your property covered in brambles, grow your blackberries in whiskey barrels) this morning.

Out jumps a frog. I'm pretty quick at grabbing stuff for the coop. Boy, did the pullets ever have fun with that frog. Something else to add to their delicacy list, I suppose. Now, I'll have to drive over to Holiday Lake at sundown and grab a few treats for the girls.

Anyone try tomato hornworms with your chickens?

I was wondering the same thing about the TOADS! Are they bad for the chickens? Now I am worried and have to leave for an appointment. One chicken is running around with a beat up dangling carcass! Cute, but I'm still worried.
Hope Y'all are having a great day!

BTW, apt is for 3rd apt to eye doc because chicken pecked me in the eye. MY fault.. I was trying to get an elastic out of her peak, which she swallowed and I was unable to "retrieve" it. I am very worried about her, too.

However, she is one of three exactly duplicate chickens so I don't know which one. Been three days and I see no difference in any of them. Been picking them up and looking them all over, too. sigh.....

I found a toad in the vegetable garden and decided to feed it to the hens. I didn't expect them to be so excited about it. They would run with it drop it then another would pick it up and run. I thought I was at a rugby match. At one point my youngest son (5) said "can we take the frog out now" I could see that it was too late for that. It took about 3 minutes and one of the hens swallowed it whole.

Ours have eaten lizards but are very leery of frogs. They avoid them and even sound the alarm when they see one. The ones I've seen are at least 4-5" in diameter.
