Chickens Eating Black Widow Spiders

Hey Guys,

An interesting topic: What happens when a chicken eats a black widow spider? Does it effect the chicken? What about the eggs?

I don't believe I saw anyone actually answer if there was any issue consuming the eggs of a chicken who ate a black widow. If someone could advise on this it would be greatly appreciated.

I do not believe it would impact the eggs. In the same way that ingesting venom is totally fine (since the body breaks down the venom via digestion), it would follow that no intact/active venom would be present in the eggs. Same answer for "could you butcher and eat a chicken who ate a spider". Or who ate a snake. Or who ate a.....Gila Monster/lizard.

The key is venom versus poison.
