Chickens eating dandelions

For clarity, grits as in breakfast or chick grit?

And treats are fine. Just not more than 10% of daily ration. So far, I only see the length of grasses and such as a potential issue.
Baby chick grits is what I’m currently giving them which that bag is about empty I was thinking about getting the normal adult grits next time.

You're thinking chick/poultry grit. Grits are a human food.

That "s" on the end of the word makes a big difference in meaning!

grits = a kind of food for people to eat

grit = little rocks to help chickens digest their food. They can have a bowl of grit, just like they can have a bowl of water, with no "s" on the end.

As far as the greens/weeds, if you're pulling just leaves and tossing it in there, yes I'd break it up into smaller pieces.

Alternative would be to pull up entire clumps of weeds, roots and all, to give it weight so as they can pull smaller pieces off the overall mass.

If you're letting them out to get their own, as they forage they'd naturally pull off smaller pieces of greenery, so you don't have to worry for the most part about the size of the things they're ingesting in that case.
