Today I noticed several chickens eating dog poop. We have a dog that runs the backyard when the chickens free range. Is there any way to cure this disgusting habit. The chickens are fed layena crumbles, chicken scratch for treats and fresh vegetables and greens. They also get oyster shell crushed as needed. I don't want to eat the eggs anymore. I am completely grossed out:sick. I have never heard of this before. Is there something I can feed my dog to turn the chickens off to the poop.

They may be going after bugs in the poop, not the poop itself- which is normal for a chicken. My chickens don't have any interest in the dog poop. If your chickens are actually eating the poop- I would wonder if they are deficient in something. Do they have free access to as much layer food as they want? They need the protein, so give them free access to the layer pellet if they don't have it. Or even give them flock raiser or turkey/game bird start for a bit, to see if that breaks the habit. Cut down on the scratch or cut it out completely- it is just calories, but no protein. Do you feed your dogs one of those raw meat diets, or dry no grain high protein diets?
