Chickens Escape

I have come up with a theory. I think that one of my chickens, the biggest, can push open the entrance, and the smallest, an easter egger, can fly over. I came home today to find my biggest chicken had escaped, and then entrance was pushed open. None of the other chickens were out. I still don't know for sure about the easter egger flying, I will watch more. Thanks! :D

Yes, I know. The gate is pressed up against the side of the house, with a small wooden block on either side. What should I do to reinforce it?

I have an EE that clears my 7 foot high fence. Makes a big fuss about it when she does too. Then runs right back in when I open the door.

If you watch those little buggers dig, you will see that they can get out from under a fence. However, I have observed that it depends on the size of the bird. My Rhode Islands, for example, are big birds, and they dig long enough to get all the grass on the other side, and then give up. But, oh can they dig! And yes, they can "fly" (more like a high jump) over my head, which is 5-1/2 feet. Generously :-) Personally, I don't want to clip their wings, and I do provide them a covered run for protection. We have lost many birds in our area to hawks.
