Our Buff Orpington, Matilda, just started laying a couple of days ago, and her eggs taste really strange. They have strong shells and they taste great at first, but they have a strange aftertaste of chlorine or something. We have been feeding her a medicated chick starter, with mealworms, scratch and sunflower seeds as treats. Is the taste just because it’s her first eggs?

She shouldn’t still be on chick feed.
What treats does she get? Plant wise, what do they eat?

I’ve read I have to keep her on that because we have some younger pullets that won’t start laying for a few months and I didn’t want them to get into the layer feed. Is that wrong?
Put them on grower feed. It’s for nonlaying juveniles. Plus, it won’t hurt to have free choice calcium.
