My step son was in the US Navy, stationed in Sicily. He went out to eat one evening with friends and they fed him horse. Didn't tell him what it was until he ate it, but he really liked it! Said he would eat it again no problem. Said it tasted like beef. I'd try it if I had to
Exactly how DID eating horse become so taboo??? Illegal even, I think![]()
Deer is also good. I went to someone’s house and they made it look like ground beef. We were making tacos and I ate some and didn’t even know it was deer until they told me. It tasted like dry ground beef, but that was probably because of the way they made it.i would think its maybe do to the fact we have been raised with dogs and cats as companions, i know my great grandparents had dogs for live stock protection and cats to keep mice out of the grain and food/feed storage.
but lots of unconventional meats are really good. beaver tastes like beef. bear is really good taste like beef mixed with pork. squirrel and rabbit are good.
I've heard horse meat gets more tender with age. Possibly serve two roles here... I'd say horse is similar to lean beef. A touch sweeter.I'm not sure but I would guess that horses serve humans better if they are alive. The same with dogs I think. There is a bond between horses or dogs and humans. A symbiotic relationship
