I have no prior experience with chickens. Horses and dogs have been my companions in the past. Dogs are all I have currently. I am ready to expand.
Do chickens do well with donkeys or horses or goats?
I would like colorful chickens that are friendly less than 10 chickens to begin.
What breeds are healthy and easier to raise?
Any suggestions for getting started raising chickens would be welcome.

questions:
best ground cover for coop area
are the portable fencing good to use
Are vaccinations required and what kind?
what type grain to feed in addition to free range

Welcome to Backyard Chickens barred are a nice start large brown eggs, easter eggers give blue eggs or green eggs kinda a olive color :ya. Anything works for ground cover best is flat ground as birds will strip the ground :celebratestarter is good for chicks basic layer is for layers

Great to have you!! :welcome

1. Yes, chickens get along well with goats, donkeys, and horses.
2. If you got a mixture of Speckled Sussex, Jubilee orpingtons (or buff), Black Australorps, and Rhode Island Reds you'd have a nice color variety and a easy to maintain flock.
3. Sand or pine shavings are a good grounding for chickens.
4. Vaccinations are not required. I have chickens that are not vaccinated and are perfectly fine and healthy.

I hope I could be of some help for you. :)
