chickens hanging out on the ground

so our 16 month old hens started preferring to chillax on the straw on the ground adjacent to the perches they've been hanging out on....
the temperature isn't overly warm, they just seem to have a new preference. is this 'normal' behavior? will they get poopy butts if they hang in the same spot on the ground? or are they smart enough to move when they gotta poop? I think the later is true and they were maybe just looking for a change of scenery...

It's funny, my 5 girls are spending a lot more time this spring/summer sitting in the grass - they have never done it that much before, and now they seem to prefer it to their old haunts. I was wondering about it myself!

Mine do that too, I think they're just relaxing. They still roost at night.

whew! good to hear that it's all the rage these days! I guess it's good to view one's run from a new perspective sometimes!
