I was feeding them scratch and switched to layer feed, I live in Texas.

Scratch isn't healthy so I'm glad you switched, but the roo can't have layer feed so I recommend you get an all flock feed and get oyster shells for your girls. They could be losing weight from switch to diet that isn't all carbs and fat or because it's hot.

Many roosters eat layer feed. I never had a problem with it, but some use an all flock feed and offer free choice crushed oyster shell. How long has it been since you changed the feed from scratch to layer? Is the layer feed a national brand? Are any starting to molt? Are they drinking well?

Changed to layer feed a few days ago, it's called Elite Layer Crumble. No molting, and they have been drinking.

I fed my roosters layer feed for years, never had a problem.
