Chickens in a neighborhood!!!

The people you should be talking to are your parents, as they're the homeowners I assume (or at least renters). Ask them to explain to you how neighborhood covenants work. If you want to take action, they'll have to do it, as they're the ones to made the agreement by buying/renting that house.

Sorry, @HouseSilkies but you have no legal power, if you're a minor and/or your parents are paying the mortgage/rent.

I KNOW I can't do anything. What I'm asking is if there is someone my parents can contact to get a permit or something that would allow chickens. An exception to the rules. Sorry! Should have worded the question better!

If it's a zoning thing, then the zoning board would have to be approached.
If it's a covenant, then they'll probably need a lawyer.
Do they want to fight it?

I feel your frustration, @HouseSilkies - I was frustrated for awhile before I could get chickens. I think people who can't have chickens sometimes raise quail. Maybe you could ask your parents about that. Not the same, of course, but it might be possible.

But don't get your hopes up. Hiring an attorney is very expensive, and flaunting the housing development covenant is not being a good neighbor.

Thank you. My parents don't have any sort of desire for chickens. They definitely wouldn't fight for them. I'm just going to drop it... At least for now. My Mom doesn't like birds in the house. I was looking at raising button quail in the garage,but they are flighty and don't make great interactive pets. But it's ok. I have a dog,two hamsters and a gecko who I am VERY grateful for. I won't die if I have to wait longer for birds. But.... If there are any docile birds that can be raised in a garage without a ton of space,I'm all for it!

If you're that passionate about it, research on how to approach your common council about passing a backyard chicken ordinance. There was a young girl in Wauwatosa , WI who took on her city and won. Just to give you a little inspiration!

I know waiting for something you really want seems tough, but many of us had to wait for years for the timing to be right to be able to get chickens. That's why the last time we were looking for a house, one of my requirements was the house had to be in an area that would allow for chickens. It was a long wait, but I think I appreciate it much more because it was something I waited for and prioritized.
