I'm hoping someone will help. My niece is in Africa DRC. She can get eggs easily there. A lot of ppl raise them. She does have electricity, but not an overabundance as they have to make their own. She would like to incubate eggs, and is wondering if there's an incubator that would be appropriate for her.

Maybe not something fancy, just basic that would not take a lot of electricity. Even in the rainy season cold won't be a problem, just to keep the temperature even. Hoping someone will reccomend an incubator? Thank you.

I did read your information, and it's well written and easy to understand, but there's still too many incubator choices. She would like one that handles 100 eggs, or at least not a very small one.

Any incubator you buy is going to need to be on 24/7 and will involve a heating element. Now, if she is in a region where it's already close to 100 degrees, then it might not take much power just to keep the temp, as the element wouldn't need to come on very often.

A hovabator or something similar is made of styrofoam and will hold 42 eggs with a turner. The whole incubator and turner would cost around $100.

I don't have any experience with incubating in Africa, but i thought i'd share what i know.

Also, welcome to BYC!

Thanks so much! I found that incubator you mentioned on amazon and fwded all your info to her. I appreciate your time. I guess most ppl there raise Banties, and if she can raise larger chickens she can sell them for good money.

I appreciate punkin peep so much taking the time to answer my question. Thank you. I probably won't be back, I live in the country, but on limited income I really dont have the money to set up for raising chickens. I am able to buy from a neighbor that raises, so I'm lucky. :)
And again, thanks for your help.
