Hello!
New poster here. I just decided that chickens would be an interesting thing to do. I went to my local organic store, and chicken breast is $7.00 a pound, and organic eggs are $4.00 a pound. So Im thinking it would be fun to get chickens....again.....yes again. I had them when I lived up in NJ about 20 years ago. I have a small farm here, so I figure, I might as well have some more fun. Im not sure why I havent already done it, except I guess the timing wasnt quite right. When in NJ, I just had layers. Im thinking now, after reading a lot of posts here, and seeing the cost of organic chicken, and scaring myself in reading what store-bought chicken really has injected into it, that I might get some meat birds and some layers. I dont even pretend that Id be able to process them myself; Im sure Ill find some place locally that can do that for me.
Anyway, after that brief intro, my main question at this time is, are there any issues having chickens in FL that I didnt have in NJ, other than I don't have to worry about water freezing. And where is the best place around here to get chicken feed. Im in North Florida, around the Gainesville/Ocala area.
Im really really enjoying reading all the threads on this forum....Im glad I found it. Happy turkey day!
