Chickens in the Run... Sorta

Also had a small win today... Yesterday I noticed one of my Australorps limping..I picked her up and looked at her nails and toes, and moved her leg joints to see if there was any tenderness and couldn't see anything. While out in the yard today I noticed that she was still limping, so as fate would have it I picked her up in a different way to look better at the bottom of her feet thinking maybe bumblefoot? Well, what I did find was a clod of hardened poop in the "palm" of her foot. I rolled it out and put her back down...no limp! Happy accident that I found it.

Great catch, I'm sure she appreciated you finding that!

I'll bet she did...that said going into the coop tonight, I noticed she was still favoring it to a smaller degree.. Maybe she bruised her foot landing on that ball for the last couple of days?
No doubt the tissue is brused. Take a closer look tomorrow to make sure she doesn't have any tiny cuts anywhere that could infect. She should be better tomorrow.

I've been keeping an Egg Log since the 23rd of July, just to figure out who's laying. Since I have 24 pullets, keeping track is definitely a challenge. But I started doing this for egg production and bought the most prolific layers that made sense for my location.

Well I tallied my log today. In 42 days the girls have gifted us with 700 eggs. I had to count it 3 times. 700. An average of almost 17 per day so far. I've been giving them to family and friends and will soon have to break out the freeze-dryer to keep up! I'm so proud of my girls (and boys)!
