Chickens In The White House! How can we make this happen!?!?!

Hmm, I agree with a previous poster....it would turn out to be a "fad" with the general public and chickens would end up suffering for it , though a wonderful idea. Look at all the dogs in the movies that people just "had" to run out and buy! We love you Rob but maybe sending a BYC shirt would be better??? JMO

This would be a great idea! Although, I'm not a fan of Obama, I still think it would be awesome! It would REALLY support our love for self-sustainance! And who knows, maybe President Obama will join Back Yard Chickens!

Then we can REALLY get noticed! I see more members coming this way!

I love the White House garden, but it didn't really seem like Michelle Obama's "thing" if you watched her work with the tools, etc. I see the garden as a symbolic thing -- very important symbolism -- but honestly they are city people and chickens seem to be a far reach. I would change my mind if we fell into a great depression as bad as the 1930s though.

Again, the pros far outweigh the cons. To make an omelet you've got to scramble some eggs. Just like to get female chicks from the hatcheries you've got to deal with what happens to the males. Will it become a fad... maybe for a year. Will a bunch of chicks / chickens be neglected and live in poor conditions as a result, yes. Will the overall effect for our nation and our great addiction... er... hobby be wonderful and long lasting... you bet!

I think it would be a good idea.
I had signed the petition to get the white house to do a garden and commented that they should get chickens and put the in link to BYC.

Nifty I think a good start would be a copy of that article, and BYC T-shirt, and a personal letter from you sent to Mrs. O'Bama. She did the garden, she can start the chicken movement at the White House. Secondarily, we could all start a letter writing campaign to her personally. I for one would be MORE than willing to write one to her promoting the awareness of backyard chickens, their health benefits and the kindness to animals side of it.
